#1928 Hi Freeman, For the last couple weeks, the college basketball tournament has been going on. It's sometimes referred to as March Madness. As a way to have a little fun, I created a tournament where favorite tunes "compete" for votes. We've gone from 32 tunes ("teams"), to 8. The URL should work. A lot of things can happen to generate an error message, though. Here's a picture file of the tournament bracket. Hopefully it helps make sense of it all. Some ODPC folks are also basketball fans. Some don't pay any attention to all the basketball craziness right now. No harm, no foul. Brian |
#1929 Thanks, Brian, for the picture. Beautiful. Very cool. This should really help people, especially people newest to jamming, to prioritize some tunes to work on. Great selection of tunes that are commonly played in dulcimer clubs and at the festival. That said, like Freeman, I didn’t have any luck using the link either. A couple weeks ago, you sent me some how-to-get-to-the-survey suggestions, ending with ask John, but I wound up giving up. I just don’t have a Google account and actually don’t even want one. (We’re not members of Facebook either, not that that’s relevant, except to show that we’re kind of luddites, perhaps. I am very fond of YouTube though.) #1931 The survey emails each person a copy of their votes, which means that it needs to know your email address. However, it only uses the email address to delivery a copy. I have no idea who voted for which team/tune. I can tell you that quite a few people have completed the survey using non-Gmail addresses. I could change the setting that emails people their results, and that might eliminate part of the problem for you and Freeman, but I think that we'll finish this 2022 "competition" with the current settings, and then possibly make changes next year. #1932 Super. Good that you’ve gotten quite a few responses including also people who don’t have g-mail addresses. Google’s graphics are great, and I love the chart you sent this morning. That is such a cool, creative, helpful, fun idea to implement. I think the “Where do I start” question for new people is often just too overwhelming, especially if they don’t have frequent opportunities to play with other people, and especially if they look at some tune lists with HUNDREDS of titles. I do wonder if Freeman and I are the only ones who had problems. #1933 I would guess that you are not the only ones. This is the first time I've ever tried something like this, so plenty of lessons learned that will help next year. When we're all done, I will put together a list of all the tunes, ranked in order of the votes they got, plus all the suggestions that people submitted for tunes that should have been in the "tournament."
